The Multi-Channel Optimization Approach That Increased Web Visitors 800% in 90 Days

Dear All,
I remember the first time I was told about Google AdWords.

My initial reaction was:
“You mean those annoying ads to the right of the search results? No one clicks on those things!”Boy was I wrong.

Using Google AdWords and similar Search Engine Marketing (SEM) strategies in conjunction with a solid SEO campaign can help skyrocket your business to the next level.

Here’s a prime example:
Doctors Health Press is an alternative health and wellness information publisher.
Their business model is to drive traffic to their web site and in turn have that qualified customer subscribe to their free e-letter. Then, they leverage that subscription into paid products such as newsletters, books, and reports, to that same qualified customer.

When we started our SEO/SEM strategy, they were getting just under 6,700 unique visitors to their site per month. The SEO strategy was simple: We converted the web site to WordPress and then started to populate the site with relevant content to the keywords we researched.

However, while this strategy would get the site quality leads, the ramp up time would be around 90 days.
This needed a multi-channel approach, so we started the Google AdWords campaign.
Doctors Health Press was aggressive to start because they already knew the value of a lead. So, we helped them craft a budget and build multiple campaigns to help them get qualified leads to the site.
Almost immediately, leads started to pour in.

Then over the next few weeks, we started to optimize the campaign. We removed ads that weren’t working, stopped bidding on keywords that weren’t getting conversions, and were able to lower the cost-per-lead (CPL) down almost 50% from where we started at.

By the end of 90 days, the site traffic exploded from just under 6,700 per month to just under 60,000 unique visitors per month.

That’s an 800% increase in traffic!
Plus, this traffic (organic and paid) was converting as their subscriber base went up almost 30% in that same time period.

As time went on, the amount of organic traffic began to grow and the CPL for the paid traffic decreased more as we optimized the campaigns.

Even though Doctors Health Press was spending at a pretty high level, they had no problem doing it because as long as the CPL was lower than the value of a customer, they were ahead of the game.
